Sham Marriage Accused Appear In Court

Some 13 people have appeared in court in connection with an immigration scam involving suspected sham marriages.

The accused, who are said to be nationals of Nigeria, Cameroon and Portugal, were arrested in Leicester, Peterborough and London, it has been reported.

A total of eight men and five men are suspected of organising or taking part in sham marriages over a period of 10 years. One man also faces charged of being in possession of a fake passport and a fake British identity document.

Appearing at Leicester Magistrates' Court, they have all been been released on bail.

They are due to appear at Leicester Crown Court later this month.
