According to the Daily Mail, 82-year-old Freda Coleman was washing her hands when she noticed her ring was missing. Mrs Coleman, who celebrated her diamond wedding anniversary with husband Tony in December, looked for the missing jewellery but was unable to find it. It would be a further four weeks until she was reunited with the ring, after she noticed her cat, Olive, playing with something on the floor.
Speaking to the publication, Freda said: "I was in the kitchen and after four weeks was still unable to find it. Olive was playing with something that I thought was an elastic band.
"I didn't want her to hurt herself so I reached down to take it from her, and that's when I noticed it glistening. The little madam had found my wedding ring. I was so happy."
She added: "It's so precious to me, and so sentimental, and I'd given up hope of ever seeing it again. I'm thrilled to have my ring back on my finger. I was so pleased as it was coming up to our diamond wedding anniversary and I was heartbroken."
The 60-year-old ring was handmade by Tony for his wife for their marriage on 6 December 1953, using gold he had been given to him by a colleague as a wedding present.
Speaking about when she lost the ring, Freda explained: "It must have just fallen off. I was upstairs in the bathroom washing my hands, and I suddenly thought, 'where's my ring'?
"I made sure it hadn't gone down the drain and we searched the house high and low, even emptying the hoover, but it just vanished."
Now that they have been reunited with the jewellery, the couple have admitted that they still do not know how Olive found the ring.
