The study by Findababysitter.com, revealed that it now costs almost £10 an hour to hire a babysitter.
It added that while one in four unemployed parents want to work, they cannot due to the childcare costs. The figures changed to two out of five parents who are aged between 18 and 24.
It found that the average hourly rate for hiring help such as a nanny, housekeeper or babysitter jumped from £8.10 an hour to £9.80 over the past year, while after-school nannies were charging £10 an hour, and housekeepers were £11.25 an hour.
More than 1,000 parents were surveyed for the report and almost half felt the Government was not doing enough to help support them with the costs of childcare.
Tom Harrow, Chief Executive of Findababysitter.com, said he had met MPs to discuss the government's policies, but said there was a "lack of understanding" over childcare on the part of the politicians.
He added: "They still think the local nursery is the only option."
