Millennials are those born between 1981 and 2000, the Gen X parents are those born between 1965 and 1980.
According to the research, the former were found to be 23% more relaxed than their parents, who were "worried, protective and enabling".
They also found that being a good parent comes first, while their Gen X counterparts put more emphasis on having a successful marriage.
The study, which surveyed some 1,700 Millennial and Gen X mothers across the US, also found that Millennial mothers are more digitally connected and use technology to help manage their lives. They are also on more social platforms and are less concerned than Gen X moms about posting pictures of themselves or their children to social networks.
Staying with technology, Millennial mums are twice as likely to communicate via text message. They also use the internet and digital platforms to find ways to support their family. For example, more than 50% want to start their own business, compared with Gen X mothers.
Commenting on the findings, Mike Fogarty, Senior Vice President and Global Publisher at BabyCentre, said: "Millennial moms are clearly reacting to the way they were raised. They're creating an environment for their kids that's more laid back and less structured, and they feel more relaxed and happy as parents. They reject the pressure they grew up with."
