Winchester Sham Marriage Attempt Detained

Home Police immigration enforcement officers have arrested four people after a suspected sham marriage in Hampshire.

The officers arrested a 21-year-old French woman, a 26-year old Cameroonian and a 29-year-old from the Ivory Coast and a Belgium 30-year old men.

The investigators stopped the ceremony following a tip-off.

The French woman was held on suspected of perjury, bigamy and assisting unlawful immigration.

The Cameroonian man who was going to tie the knot with her was suspected of perjury.

Both were being questioned at a Hampshire police station while searches took place at their properties.

The two other men were arrested at a property in High Street, Winchester under suspicion of conspiracy to facilitate a breach of UK immigration law.
