The singer is due to give birth to her fifth child in six weeks' time. It will be her first child with fiancée George Kay.
However, the couple's original idea of a name didn't quite work out, as they thought they were having a boy, only to discover they were actually having a girl.
According to a report in the Daily Star, a friend of Katona's said: "After discovering she was expecting, Kerry did a test which said there was an 86% chance she was having a boy.
"They decided on the name George after the baby's dad and thought it would be nice. But they were shocked to find out two months ago they were having a girl.
"They had to go back to the drawing board to pick a name but they couldn't think of anything they wanted."
The insider continued: "They thought about Georgina but worried it sounded a bit old and frumpy. Then Kerry suggested changing the spelling to the female version Jorgie and having James as a second name.
"That's when they settled on Jorgie James Katona Kay for her. It's unusual but Kerry has never been one for convention and she thinks it's lovely."
Katona, 33, and former rugby player Kay announced their engagement in April 2013, after nine months of dating. The singer has previously said they have known each other for a number of years.
While this will be the couple's first child together, Katona is also a mum to Molly, 12, Lilly-Sue, 11, Heidi, seven, and five-year-old Maxwell, from previous relationships.
