While, for men, they are said to be more attracted to female lawyers.
The research was carried out by scientists – using data from eHarmony – who looked into whether an individual's job could influence their attraction online.
The findings revealed that men who work in advertising, law and pilots received the most messages, and were the most likely to contact women employed in the fields of marketing, advertising and law.
In addition to revealing the most attractive careers, the study also uncovered the occupations that are most likely to start talking to each other over the internet. For example, male lawyers paired with female architects were the most friendly, and were followed by researchers with other researchers, while male physical therapists were with female bankers.
In contrast, the pairings least likely to start a conversation are male caterers with female students, male librarians with female teachers and male caterers with women doctors.
Elsewhere, male travel agents, waiters and pharmacists were found to be the most fussy about who they date, while the least choosy were librarians, bartenders and caterers. When it comes to women, interestingly, librarians were found to be the most fussy, followed by pharmacists and engineers; while marketers, admin assistants and bartenders are the least fussy.
Commenting on the results, Dr Steve Carter from the website, said: "As experts in relationship compatibility, we were interested to see which combinations of jobs seemed mutually attractive, versus which ones were most attractive to possible partners in general.
"Interestingly, while bankers and lawyers can get a bit of a hard time generally, it seems they're actually quite popular when it comes to potential romance."
