According to reports, the actor surprised the group as they prepared to go on a boat trip from Sydney Harbour.
The 44-year-old has been in Sydney for the last two weeks as he prepares to start filming Gods of Egypt in the area. In a report by the Daily Mail, Butler is said to have already been on board the boat because he had used it just before the hen party arrived to look at homes on Rushcutter's Bay.
When Maja Nogic, the bride-to-be, and her friends arrived, they were told by the manager of the boat that there was a surprise waiting for them. Butler was then said to have called down to the women: "Is this a hen's party? Can I join? We're going to dance a little bit, drink a little bit."
Dragana Ogorelica, a friend of the bride, is quoted as saying they got "the shock of our lives" when they saw the star standing on the boat they hired for the day.
She added: "We thought it was a stripper, because it was a hen's party. But then we saw [Gerard] standing on the boat. We all just started screaming."
The actor also posed for a number of photos with the bride and her hen party.
