Further Falls In Scotland's Divorce Rate

The number of divorces granted by courts in Scotland has fallen, according to new official figures.

According to Scotland's Chief Statistician, the number of divorces fell by 2% in the year to the end of last March. In 2012/13, a total of 9,700 marriages were legally ended. This represents a fall of 14% over the past four years.

While the number of civil partnerships which were dissolved quadrupled within the same period, to 67. A reason for this could be due to the increasing number of people who have entered into civil partnerships since they were introduced in the country in 2005.
