Best Man Stole From Soldier Friend

The best man of a soldier wounded in Afghanistan has been found guilty of theft.

According to the BBC, Conor Aldous, 22, was sentenced at Basildon Crown Court.

The court heard how Mr Aldous was friends with Private Alex Stringer. Mr Stringer lost both his legs and an arm in Afghanistan in 2011 – following the incident, Aldous acted as his carer.

It is understood that during that time, the accused stole £2,500 from his friend. The theft occurred in 2012 just weeks before Pte Stringer's wedding. The court also heard how shortly after stealing the money, Aldous helped his friend walk down the aisle on artificial legs.

Sentencing Mr Aldous, Judge David Owen-Jones is quoted as saying: "It was a mean offence. He was extremely vulnerable and you abused that trust.

"It is a very serious offence and only an immediate custodial sentence can be justified."

He admitted the theft and was jailed for 10 months.
