According to the Metro, the man, Nick Pritchard, whose moniker is @nmpritchard on the social networking site, was quickly inundated for updates on the situation when he first made the announcement.
It is understood he attended a ceremony in Gretna Green, Scotland, when the happy couple's troubles started.
When asked by other users as to what was happening, one tweet read: "Words were had as we sat down to eat. Seems there had been other issues throughout the day. All kicked off."
Another, when asked if he was being serious, read: "Seriously! Falling out as we sat down to eat. Bride and groom stormed off. Cur massive row between families. Awkward."
Once word started to spread of the drama, other members of the site started following Mr Pritchard for updates, with one asking: "That is impressive. Are they reconciled or still feuding?"
Pritchard responded: "Still feuding as far as I know. Left them to it last night."
Further requests for details revealed the wedding cake had remained untouched, the speeches had not been made and there was a "massive row" between the two families.
However, it seems not all is lost as he later posted a further update which simply read: "Hearing that against all odds a rapprochement may now be under way. More news as we get it."
