According to the Daily Mail, 20-year-old Sophie Aldridge woke in the middle of the night with severe back pain. She blamed it on period pains, but when her condition deteriorated the next day, her mum took her to hospital where doctors administered an anti-sickness injection and gave Ms Aldridge sleeping pills before sending her home. Shortly after the young woman returned home however, her pain became unbearable and her mother decided to ring for an ambulance.
While in transit, Sophie told a paramedic she thought she had wet herself and they quickly realised her waters had broken.
On route to William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, Ms Aldridge told a paramedic that she thought she had wet herself, but it was quickly discovered that she was in fact in labour and her waters had broken. Within 30 minutes of arriving at the hospital's A&E department, she gave birth to a baby boy, Thomas, weighing 5lbs 8oz.
Speaking to the publication, Ms Aldridge admitted that she didn't know she was pregnant as she remained a size 10, with no sign of a baby bump emerging.
She explained: "My period was due that day so I assumed that was why I was having such bad pains. I know it might sound really stupid to some people, but I literally had no idea I was pregnant – I didn't have any symptoms.
"I didn't get morning sickness, I stayed wearing my size ten clothes, I had regular periods throughout the pregnancy and I didn't have any cravings. I was still wearing crop-tops and mini skirts, I didn't have a bump or anything.
"Because I had no idea I was pregnant, I was still going out and getting drunk with my friends. So to give birth there and then, like I did, was absolutely terrifying. It was a big shock to everyone when I suddenly arrived home with a baby."
When the new mother did arrive home, she had no supplies to look after her son, but revealed that her family and friends had come together to get the new family everything they needed.
She added: "When I gave birth I didn't even have a nappy to my name, let alone, clothes or a pram or cot.
"When I came home from hospital my friends and family had come together and donated nearly everything me and Thomas needed, which was so kind.
"In a way, I'm so glad it all happened – I wouldn't change Thomas for the world now. I like to call him my little miracle."
