The television presenter made the surprising comments in an interview with Cosmopolitan.
Willis, 38, first met her partner when he was part of boyband Busted.
She recalled: "I met Matt when he was in Busted. I was working at MTV and I'd see him wearing baggy jeans, waddling around like a duck so they didn't fall down.
"He used to wear make-up and have weird hairstyles. But I remember thinking underneath all that was a really cute guy... Nine years on, that fun has turned into a marriage and two kids, which is amazing because I never expected it for a second, and I don't think he did."
The mum also went on to say that the couple are not very "romantic", and finds gestures of love "embarrassing".
"When he [Matt] proposed," she explained, "It was like, 'This is really weird!' I was so freaked out I couldn't even call mum – then he told me, 'Erm, your mum knows.'"
And now, she says: "We have date nights but we'll just go to a movie and have dinner – no candlelit suppers! But we're always a proper team: Team Willis."
Emma and Matt tied the knot at Rushton Hall, Northamptonshire in July 2008 after three years of dating.
