Twin Girls Born Holding Hands

A pair of twin sisters have been born holding hands, it has been reported.

The baby girls, who were born in the US state of Ohio last Friday, were holding each other's hands when doctors lifted them up for their parents to see them after the delivery.

The twins were placed on a ventilator shortly after their birth, but their mother, Sarah Thistlethwaite, says they are now breathing on their own.

The girls – named as Jillian and Jenna Thistlewaite – are also said to be monoamniotic twins. This is a rare occurrence, that only happens in one in 10,000 pregnancies, where both babies share an amniotic sac and placenta.

Speaking to the Akron Beacon Journal newspaper, Ms Thistlewaite said being able to hold her baby daughters was "the best Mother's Day present ever."

"I can't believe they were holding hands," she added. "That's amazing."
