The research, commissioned by WeightLossResources.co.uk, found 54% of dieters will seek out the support of their partner. For those not in relationships? Well, just one in seven said their friends are the most supportive when temptation or cravings kick in.
For the poll, 500 people who are dieting, were asked, "Which person in your life is usually the most supportive when it comes to your dieting?" More than half (54%) named their partner as the one who keeps them focused, while 16% said friends are their support network. Parents and siblings were also said to be a source of support, but not as much apparently, with just 5.2% and 4% of respondents' votes.
Speaking to MailOnline, Laurence Beeken, nutritionist at weightlossresources.co.uk, said: "We recognise that support is an integral part of any weight loss programme and what better person to share it with than your partner.
"They'll invariably offer support and share the highs and lows with you - especially if they're losing weight along with you.
"Studies over the years have shown that partners who team up to lose weight or get fit together are more successful than individuals who go it alone."
