Judge Michael McShane is quoted by local media as saying the ban, which has been in place from 2004, discriminated against gay and lesbian couples.
Lawyers for the state refused to defend the ban in court, and will not appeal the ruling.
The ruling is just the latest in a number of court cases in America which has reversed a previous voter-approved ban. Since December 2013, federal judges in Idaho, Michigan, Oklahoma, Utah and Virginia have also struck down similar bans, labelling them as "unconstitutional". However, the rulings have been suspended until appeals are heard by the state's higher courts.
With regards to Oregon, State Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum is said to have refused to defend the ban, claiming there are no legal arguments to support it after the US Supreme Court ruled in favour of gay marriage last year; and an appeals court subsequently rejected an anti-gay marriage organisation to be allowed to appeal the ruling in lieu of the state.
Eighteen states, as well as the District of Columbia, have fully legalised same-sex marriages.
