However, they then proceed to lie to their friends about it because they are afraid of being judged, a new survey has revealed.
The poll, commissioned by VoucherCodesPro.co.uk, found that over a third of children – under the age of 10 – eat junk food every day, despite parents saying they try to monitor the food they eat.
A fifth of parents confessed that they regularly lie to others about how much junk food their children eat in order to avoid being judged by others, while 25% said they lie because they feel guilty about the amount of junk food their child eats.
With many children eating foods like chocolate, crisps and pizza every day, 48% of parents felt their child was overweight, while 35% went as far as to say their offspring's junk food consumption is "out of control".
When it comes to the foods responsible and regularly eaten by kids, takeaway pizza topped the list, and was closely followed by chocolate (26%), while 17% snacked from fast food chains most often. These habits mean parents are now spending an average of £26 every month on junk food for their children.
George Charles, of VoucherCodesPro, said: "Parents may be lying about how much junk food they feed their kids because they're worried about looking 'cheap' but that couldn't be further from the truth."
