The actress, who tied the knot with James Righton in May 2013, made the comments in a new interview with Elle magazine.
In the July edition, the 29-year-old confessed she would prefer her children to be able to enjoy their childhood and teenage years without being constantly in the spotlight.
Using her own experiences as a reason, she explained: "I would 150 million trillion per cent be totally discouraging of (them) doing anything like that. I would say teenage years should be done privately.
"You should be going out and getting unbelievably drunk, getting into ridiculous situations, making mistakes. That's what that time of life is about and we should do that privately, one million trillion zillion per cent."
She continued: "Saying that, I don't regret it – I wouldn't do my life any differently, but having lived through it... There was a very long time when [interviewers] were all, 'Well, you're a s**t actress and you're anorexic and people hate you', which, for a teenager of somebody in their early 20s, is a very strange thing."
Knightley, who shot to fame in the movie 'Bend It Like Beckham', married The Klaxons' member James Righton in a small intimate ceremony in France in May 2013. The couple started dating in February 2011 having met through a mutual friend.
