According to the Daily Mail, 52-year-old Christine Reynolds noticed how her two pugs – Betty and Albert – had fallen in love, and so decided to splash out £2,000 on a wedding for the animals.
The big day included a £100 custom-made wedding dress for Betty, while Albert had a tux, trilby and bow tie. Wedding rings were even exchanged and attached to the pugs' collars, and special 'doggy vows' were said on behalf of the pooches.
Before the wedding, the pets were even treated to a joint 'hen' and 'stag' do at their local – where Betty was adorned with an 'L' plate and bunny ears and Albert had a suit.
Mrs Reynolds, who is a dog groomer, said: "Both dogs had a great time. It was their last night of single life. Luckily neither dog was unfaithful, and they were both happy to snuggle up together at the end of the night in their beds."
She first bought Albert two years ago, then last year, bought Betty and the pets are said to have hit it off straightaway. From sharing the same food bowl, to following each other around or snuggling on the sofa, she said the two dogs have been inseparable. It was then, when Mrs Reynolds came up with the idea to plan a white wedding at Kitz-Katz cattery in Northants.
At the end of the ceremony, a 'doggy vicar' Ann Clark, who owns the cattery, pronounced Albert and Betty husband and wife. They were then walked back down the aisle to Sonny and Cher's 'I Got You, Babe' as guests showered them with confetti.
Commenting on the idea to organise a wedding for her pugs, Reynolds admitted: "I know what people must think. I am barking mad, but I know my pugs are in love, so getting them married seemed like the right thing to do.
"Now that they are married they can sleep in the same bed and hopefully have some puppies together.
"They are such a cute couple. Albert is a gentleman and always looks after Betty. As we were doing the vows I started tearing up, it was so beautiful."
She added: "My kids are all grown up and they find it hilarious. But I am pug-obsessed. My whole house is covered in pug photos, pug decorations, pug pillows and pug duvets. They are just so sweet."
However, one person who doesn't quite share her enthusiasm is her husband, Julian, who is quoted by the paper as saying: "It's all bonkers."
