That is according to a new poll by travel agency On The Beach.
The much-preferred swimwear option of swim shorts was selected by 70% of women instead, with just 13% saying they wouldn't mind if their partner more a pair of more tight-fitting pair of brief shorts.
When the tables are turned though, the men were not as quick as to have women hide their flesh. In fact, three-quarters of men polled said they would like to see their partner wearing a bikini, while 13% opted for a tankini. Just 2% of men said they would prefer it if their other half covered up in a kaftan.
Elsewhere, the poll also looked at the 'sun protection' routine of men and women. While 71% of women said they don't wear any make-up while at the beach, 3% stick to their usual look; but almost a quarter (24%) admitted that they are less likely to wear suncream if they are wearing make-up. For their male counterparts, 68% confessed to always using SPF while on holiday, with 13% using a tanning oil. A further 9% said they never used any form of sun protection on their holiday or at the beach.
Alistair Daly, Chief Marketing Officer at On The Beach, said: "We often see pictures of celebrity men wearing tight-fitting Speedos on holiday, but our survey suggests that girls are not keen on their partners doing the same."
