Two Jailed Over Wedding Attack

Two people have been jailed at Bolton Crown Court in relation to an attack that occurred at a wedding reception.

Police confirmed that Dale Hughes, 27, and 52-year-old Nick Etchells have been jailed over the attack on an elderly couple at the reception. It is said the incident happened over a row about noise issues.

Greater Manchester Police said the argument began when the elderly man's wife told some of the wedding party to keep the noise down in the car park of the venue.

Sarah Etchells, 35, punched the woman in the face. The elderly woman's husband, aged 76, who is understood to have worked as a voluntary secretary at the venue, was then attacked by the two men. He was punched in the face and as he tried to drive away, they punched him a second time through the open car window. He suffered black eyes, a cut lip and a cracked tooth in the attack.

Etchells, the wife of Nicholas, was also accused of pulling the hair of a pregnant woman, who was to get a lift home with the elderly couple. At Bolton Crown Court she admitted three counts of common assault and criminal damage and was given a 12 month community order. Her husband and Mr Hughes were both jailed for 18 months after being convicted of assault.

Commenting on the case, PC Joanne Boyle described it as a "sad indictment of what can happen when loutish behaviour and alcohol are mixed".
