Woman Gives Birth In Court

A woman has given birth at Birmingham Crown Court, it has been reported.

It is understood the woman was attending the court with a friend who was providing evidence in a trial.

The woman, 25, is said to have gone into labour in the witness room in the building. Paramedics were called to the scene.

In a statement, a spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "Crews were called at 2.40pm to reports that a 25-year-old pregnant women had gone into labour.

"Two ambulances attended and the baby was born inside the court building. Both the baby and mother were taken by ambulance to Birmingham Women's Hospital."

Victim Support West Midlands later issued a short message via its Twitter account thanking those who helped the mother and baby.

They wrote: "3.15pm 2day baby girl born in @VictimSupport witness waiting room, Bham Crown Court – thanks 2 all who assisted & mother & baby doing well!!! (sic).
