Last month, the couple issued a joint message on Twitter confirming their engagement. They started dating last year after being introduced by mutual friend Ed Sheeran.
Cox, 50, and 37-year-old McDaid who hails from Northern Ireland, flew from Heathrow on Wednesday into City of Derry Airport. It is understood to be the actress's first time in the country and in addition to taking in the local sights, she is also expected to meet her partner's family as well as scout for a potential wedding location.
It had previously been reported that the couple were planning to marry in the US but it is now thought they will tie the knot in Ireland.
Cox, who shot to fame on television sitcom Friends, was formerly married to actor David Arquette. The couple met on the set of Scream in 1995 and married four years later. In 2010, they announced they had separated after 11 years of marriage, but waited until 2012 to file for a divorce. Their divorce was finalised in May 2013. They share custody of their 10-year-old daughter Coco.
