According to reports, the couple's pre-wedding party descended into "disaster" after the pair fell out.
The incident is thought to have happened at London's Hotel Verta on Friday. Following the fight, Katona, 33, refused to attend the party, leaving the invited guests unsure as to what was going on.
A source is quoted by the Daily Star as saying: "The do was an absolute disaster. After the spa treatments, Kerry and George had some sort of huge fight. She was crying and was really upset.
"All the guests got on the boat and were waiting for ages wondering what was going on. Then 45 minutes later they were told the party was being cancelled and to get off."
It is not clear what the argument was about, but it has been a difficult month for the couple. In July, Kay was detained under the Mental Health Act after taking a concoction of steroids, sleeping pills and alcohol. The mix of chemicals caused the former rugby player to run through the couple's Oxfordshire home – and out into the street – shouting that someone was trying to kill him.
Despite their problems, Katona and Kay have insisted their big day will go ahead as planned in September. The couple have been in a relationship since 2012, but have been friends for a number of years. They announced their engagement last year and in April welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Dylan Jorge.
While Dylan is Kay's first child, his partner is also a mum to Molly 12, and Lilly Sue, 11, from her first marriage to Brian McFadden, and Heidi, seven, and six-year-old Maxwell from her second marriage to Mark Croft.
