Following months of speculation, the couple's six-year marriage has come to an end with a separation being a "done deal".
According to TMZ.com, the pair's problems started in March when Cannon took part in an interview with Power 106 radio where he openly discussed his previous sexual partners. He also talked about his sexual relationship with his wife, which is said to have left her feeling "humiliated".
The interview was conducted in March, and it is thought the couple have been living separate lives since May as they try to come to an agreement regarding their assets, such as property, as well as custody agreement over their twin children.
Another source told In Touch Weekly, "Mariah has had several closed door meetings with divorce lawyers. But Nick's being more passive. He's less inclined to pull the trigger, perhaps because of the kids. He'll definitely wait for Mariah to file for divorce, but he won't go down without a fight. He wants a chunk of her $500 million fortune.
"Nick's sensible and realises that the twins would have a more stable existence if Mariah had full custody. But he wants generous visitation rights."
Carey, 44, and Cannon, 33, married in April 2008 just two months after they started dating. In October 2010, the couple confirmed they were expecting their first child, and in April 2011, Carey gave birth to fraternal twins. The children were named Monroe and Moroccan.
