Couple Celebrate 80th Wedding Anniversary

A couple from Bournemouth are celebrating their 80th wedding anniversary.

Maurice Kaye, now aged 102, and his wife Helen, 101, first met in 1929 when they were teenagers, 10 years before the start of World War Two.

According to the BBC, the couple will celebrate their oak anniversary with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs Kaye was 16 and working in her mother's shop in Walworth, south London, when she met her future husband Maurice, whose father wanted to sell goods to the store.

After four years of courting, the couple married in Borough Synagogue, south London. They had four children together, but only two are surviving. They also have seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

When asked about the secret to their long-lasting marriage, Mrs Kaye is quoted by the BBC as saying: "You can never plan anything. How can you plan for 80 years? It is fate.

"You mustn't be hard on each other. And if you have to give in a little bit, you give in a little bit."

Her husband admitted: "I didn't think it would last a week but it's amazing it's lasted 80 years."

He added that the secret to a happy marriage is to always agree with his wife.
