Bride-To-Be Admits Sham Marriage Role

A woman has pleaded guilty for her role in an attempted sham marriage in Newtownards last year, it has been reported.

On Tuesday, the 'bride', named as Fatou N'Diaye, 26, pleaded guilty at Downpatrick Crown Court to conspiring to assist unlawful immigration. She had been due to 'marry' a Mr Dominic Nartey at Newtownards Registry Office in Co Down, in December 2013.

The 29-year-old groom, who is originally from Cameroon but has an address in Cardiff, has denied the charges against him, which include conspiracy and a possession of another person's identity document.

Massiamie Bamba, 44, a witness to the fake wedding, admitted to assisting unlawful immigration in court, but another witness Elvis Asaah, 30, wedding organiser 36-year-old Ben Ahmed Doumbia, and interpreter Joseph Movuh Vutung, all deny an offence of encouraging or assisting in an offence to be committed.

A provisional trial date for the case has been set for December, UTV has reported.
