Eager Christmas shoppers are expected to start their present buying today, it has been claimed.
According to a new study, conducted by the Ideal Home Show at Christmas and sponsored by Go Compare, 41% of Brits will begin their Christmas shopping from Friday (24 October).
When it comes to Christmas shopping, the busiest time to browse for presents will be 6.35pm, as many people will head to the shops after finishing work.
Money also appears to be no issue when it comes to the festive season, with the average person buying 14 gifts for loved ones – each costing around £24. When totalled up, this equates to around £331, a quarter of the typical monthly pay.
Choosing the perfect gift for a loved one is important to many, and a third of respondents admitted they spend up to two hours planning what they will buy. However, 9% confessed they will actually spend more time planning their gifts, than time they will spend at work (10 hours). Being prepared doesn't always work out though, as 17% said they leave their Christmas shopping to the last minute.
Elsewhere the survey revealed that men and women have completely different ideas when it comes to the festive shopping.
Both sexes said they set aside three hours to complete their shopping, and a further three hours for wrapping said gifts, but women were found to be the better shoppers. 10% of women said they will spend between 11 and 14 days shopping online for the perfect gifts for their loved ones – while just 3% of men said the same.
Women also tend to buy an average of three more presents than men, with 7% saying they will purchase more than 50 gifts this year. Interestingly though, men will actually spend £24 more on their shopping.
On Christmas Day, loved ones are the most likely to be spoilt, with 21% of women spending the most money on their parents. 11% of men said the same.
A further 19% of men said they spend most of their money on their siblings at Christmas – with just 15% of women saying the same.
For an honest 5% of respondents, they will actually end up spending more money on their beloved pet than anyone else.
