Hen & Stag Dos Fuel Rise In Older People Taking Boozy Holidays

Hen and stag parties are partly responsible for an increasing number of people over the age of 40 going away on a boozy '18-30s style' holiday, a new study has claimed.

The research, conducted by sunshine.co.uk, questioned 2,764 adults in the UK, aged 40 or over, what their summer holiday had entailed earlier this year. When asked if they had been on a typical '18-30s style' break, which involved alcohol, bars and quite a few late nights, 24% said yes.

They were then asked why they had chosen this type of holiday, and while 41% said it was just so they could "let off some steam", 16% said they had been part of a hen or stag do on the trip, while a further 11% said they went on that kind of break because they had separated from their partner.

The most popular destination for such a holiday was found to be Majorca (21%), Ibiza (16%) and Mainland Spain (11%), with Cyprus (9%) and Turkey (6%) rounding out the top five hotspots.

It isn't all drinking and nursing the subsequent hangover, however, as the most popular holidays amongst those aged 40 and over were a cruise (38%), while 31% opted for a laid back beach break.
