In fact, three is now said to be the average number of lovers Brits on the dating scene are juggling.
The study, commissioned by Balance Activ, found that women aged between 35 and 44 are the busiest when it comes to dating, with a quarter admitting to being in a relationship with four men at the same time. One in 10 single ladies admitted they had been on three more dates – on the same day; while for men, 22% admitted to dating four – or more – women at once.
Of the 2,000 singletons who took part in the poll, 37% of women aged 18 to 24 said they needed to be "date ready" all of the time, while 11% of women will even keep a change of clothes at work. Interestingly, 23% of men also admitted to keeping a change of clothes at work just in case they had to rush out for a date. In addition, one in seven single women said they keep a spare pair of underwear in their handbag, again, "just in case".
Elsewhere, the "three-date rule" is a dwindling tradition, with men feeling they should wait until the fifth date before sleeping with a partner. Women said they want to wait until the sixth date. The study also claimed that just 38% of women and 20% of men will wait until they are in an exclusive relationship before they get intimate with a partner.
