In an interview with the Daily Star, the singer explained that she has adopted this viewpoint because of her previous bad luck with regards to marriage.
The 34-year-old, who married Kay in September, is quoted by the publication as saying: "I've had so much bad luck over the years but that's just the way it goes. We've not got this perfect relationship, this fairytale Cinderella ending. It doesn't exist.
"We will argue. My mood swings can be outrageous, but it's how you react as a couple, and being a team, and working at it.
"I can't predict this marriage is going to last forever. If there are two people in a relationship and one wants to get out there's nothing I can do to stop that."
She added: "But I'm an old-fashioned person. I believe in that fairytale wedding. It hasn't worked in the past, but does that mean I have to give up on it? I'm giving this one a go."
Katona and Kay have been in a relationship since 2012, but were friends for a number of years. They announced their engagement in 2013 and in April 2014, welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Dylan Jorge.
While Dylan is Kay's first child, his wife is also a mum to Molly, 13, and Lilly Sue, 11, from her first marriage to Brian McFadden, and Heidi, seven, and six-year-old Max from her second marriage to Mark Croft.
Shortly after the couple's wedding in September, they revealed they would like another child, but it seems as though those plans have now been put on hold.
"I still definitely want one more but not yet. I want to enjoy my body and the baby," Katona commented. "Me and George have talked about it but at the moment I'm saying no. I've been pregnant all my life. I need a break.
"I've always wanted six kids. Because I was an only child in a foster home I always felt really alone. So I want to make sure my kids can all be there for each other. One day I will be gone and I want to make sure they've always got someone to turn to and rely on."
