Midwives To Be Consulted Over Pay

Midwives in Northern Ireland are to be consulted over potential industrial action, it has been confirmed.

The midwives will be asked whether they would take industrial action to secure an improved pay offer. A two-week consultation will now be held by the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) in relation to the issue.

Depending on the result, it may ballot those in Northern Ireland about taking industrial action later in the year.

The RCM said that it recommends members vote in favour of taking industrial action as a result of "an unprecedented attack on NHS pay in Northern Ireland".

It added that by taking such action, it is the best chance of receiving an improved pay offer, following on from the success of a similar campaign in England.

The consultation will be conducted online, with the necessary link emailed to members.

The deadline for responses is midday on 18 March 2015.
