At the beginning of this week, it was reported that Walliams and his wife, model Lara Stone, had called time on their five-year marriage. Around the time the news broke, Walliams was due to be interviewed by Norton for his chat show – which airs this evening. However, according to sources at the BBC, the comedian asked the host not to ask about his wife, as he did not want to discuss the issue in public.
A source is quoted as saying: "He is trying to continue laughing and joking but on the inside he is very emotional. He really doesn't want a broken marriage and would love to get back together.
"David has not given up on this relationship, he and Lara have a child together so his priority is to try to keep some kind of family unit. Until a few weeks ago they were still walking around West London hand in hand so he hopes some of the damage can be repaired."
Walliams, 34, and Stone, 31, started dating in 2008 and announced their engagement in January 2010. That May, the couple tied the knot at London's Claridge's Hotel. Two years later, in December 2012, they confirmed they were expecting their first child together. Their son, Alfred, was born in May 2013.
