Man Charged Over Wedding Murder

A man has been charged with murder following a shooting incident outside a wedding in Co Fermanagh last month.

Barney McGinley was shot outside the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Newtownbutler on 11 February as a wedding was taking place. He was taken to hospital via PSNI helicopter, but subsequently died from his injuries.

His great nephew, William McGinley, has been charged with the murder. He has also been charged with the attempted murder of the victim's son.

According to reports, William McGinley, 26, appeared at Omagh Magistrates' Court in Co Tyrone, spoke only to confirm his name and that he understood the charges against him. He has been remanded in custody and due to appear in court again on 16 March.

His father, Patrick McGinley, appeared in court two weeks ago, charged with the same murder. He has been in custody since 21 February.

The family are members of the Travelling community.
