Faiers, 24, and Essex, also 24, dated on-and-off while they both starred in reality television show The Only Way Is Essex. They were together for two years, but in June 2013, they called time on their romance – just days before Essex headed to Australia to take part in 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!'
At the time, it was well documented that the couple had separated, but now Faiers has revealed she only found out her ex was going into the jungle two days before he left – and that he had promised to return to the UK and resume their relationship. The former TOWIE star also admitted that it was hard to watch her partner on the television night after night, especially when he struck up a close friendship with model Amy Willerton – who he would then go on to date for a short period upon leaving the jungle show.
Serialising her autobiography in The Sun, Faiers said of the incident: "I had to watch on national TV as Amy Willerton found any excuse to touch him, do trials with him and rub suntan cream into his back."
She added that she embarked on a weight loss programme as a result, in an attempt to win him back. "I was at breaking point and my family were desperately worried for me. I fell into an exhausting obsession and ritual," she said.
Following months of speculation, Faiers and Essex eventually did reunite in March 2014. However, by November it had all come to an end. The couple insisted they were still good friends despite the separation, but now, Faiers has lashed out at her ex, claiming it was his fault they are no longer together.
Labelling her former boyfriend as "jealous" and "paranoid", as well as "angry and frustrated", she said: "That's why I had to break up, for the sake of my sanity. I hoped it [relationship] would end in marriage and children but in the end I didn't know who he was any more.
"It was only once I finally knew the relationship was over that I could see it for what it had really been. Made up of some good bits, but by and large fairly toxic."
