According to reports, Lliwn Roberts, who is from Bala in North Wales, and Gareth MacRae, who is from New Zealand, were due to marry in the UK in July. However, Mr MacRae has now been deported back to the UK after officials claimed the couple did not have enough savings to qualify for the necessary visa.
The pair have been in a relationship for six years and got engaged in 2014. It is understood they booked a wedding in Llandudno for later this year. However, they spent a year applying for marriage visas but their application was rejected. Mr MacRae is then thought to have requested a standard holiday visa. However, immigration officials said the couple needed to have more than £62,000 in savings in order to allow the groom to stay in the UK.
Last week, MacRae was detained at Manchester Airport for three hours, before being deported to New Zealand three days later.
Ms Lliwen is quoted by the MailOnline as saying: "Watching Gareth being taken away and treated like a criminal broke my heart. We have been cooperating with UK immigration ever since we got engaged. We were so excited to say our vows and 16 members of Gareth's family and friends booked flights from New Zealand.
"We saved up over £30,000 in the hope of being able to get married and start a life together in Wales. Gareth learned Welsh and joined a local rugby team because he was so keen to integrate. We are going to do everything we can to be together. I am going to keep my wedding dress in hope I will be able to wear it one day."
