The poll, by supermarket chain Asda, claims that of the 1,000 men and women who took part, 8.15pm is the time when men are most likely to listen to their partner. In fact, almost half said they were happy to have a serious discussion over dinner.
Another good time to broach an important topic is said to be when driving – with 39% of men admitting they like to have a meaningful talk when behind the wheel.
Furthermore, when it comes to asking for a favour, more than 20% of men said they would give in to their other half's demands if they were asked in front of other family members.
While these may be the best times to approach delicate subjects, the survey also revealed the times when such a situation shouldn't be tried. For example, women said they were most likely to bring up a tough subject to discuss at 8.20am; while men also said they did not like to be disturbed while they were taking a shower.
In addition, just 1% of men confessed they listen to what their spouse is saying if they are busy playing video games, while a further 92% said they are not prepared to talk when watching football. Rather, they would be left alone. Elsewhere, less than 95% of men also dislike when their other half interrupts a film.
And when it comes to feared conversation openers, more than 80% said 'We need to talk' as their most feared opener, while 42% of women said, 'Is everything okay?' was theirs – especially when their partner knows the opposite to be true.
