Earlier this year, Ms Richardson was thrown into the spotlight after a photo emerged of her and Malik together at a nightclub in Phuket, Thailand. In one photo, Malik had his arm wrapped around the 26-year-old, while another appeared to show the couple standing outside the club, holding hands.
Just days later, Malik was forced to deny reports that he had cheated on his fiancée Perrie Edwards. After declaring his love for Edwards in a brief Twitter post, the singer later confirmed he had left the boyband in order to spend more time with his partner and his family.
Now, Richardson has spoken out about the incident to insist that nothing happened between the couple. She is quoted by The Sun newspaper as saying: "There were death threats and people saying they would find me. There was a lot of hate behind everything. I was scared. Fans were saying to me, 'It's your fault, we are gonna get you' and: 'We hate you'."
She added that she had simply spotted the singer in the nightclub and asked him for a photograph.
"It was just an innocent picture," she said. "Nothing else happened. He is a handsome lad but it is not something I would dive into."
