Call For Equal Marriage Rights To Be Extended Into NI

Sinn Féin is calling for equal marriage rights to be extended into Northern IReland.

MLA Caitríona Ruane was speaking ahead of two couples going to court to seek a judicial review of the North's equal marriage ban.

Ms Ruane said: "Marriage equality threatens no one and sends out clear message that discrimination will not be tolerated.

"The recent referendum in the South shows the level of support for equal marriage.

"The North now is in the shameful position of being the only part of these islands which does not have marriage equality.

"It simply does not make sense to deny gay couples the right to marry in Belfast while gay couples can marry in Dublin."
