Orkney Residents Help Save Bride's Big Day

Residents living in Orkney came together to help save a bride's wedding day after her bags – as well as those of her husband-to-be – went missing on their flight.

According to the BBC, Lucia Baratta and John Sessions flew to the islands on Monday to tie the knot, but their luggage, which included Ms Baratta's wedding dress, didn't arrive.

An appeal was then launched by the owners of the Kirkwall Hotel, Kirkwall. Within a short space of time, the local community had rallied around the couple. Responses included Ms Baratta being offered 12 wedding dresses in her size, as well as veils, tiaras and shoes. Make-up and flowers were also offered to the couple.

Speaking to BBC Radio Orkney, the bride said: "We came to Orkney in a surprise elopement only to find our luggage was lost. We had no bags and no wedding dress.

"The outpouring from the community has been incredible."

The couple married on Tuesday.
