Jersey 'Could Introduce Same-Sex Marriage'

Jersey could introduce same-sex marriage by January 2017, it has been revealed.

According to reports, the new plans by the chief minister, Senator Ian Gorst, would allow for both civil and religious same-sex weddings to go ahead, if approved. There would also be legislation in place to protect religious organisations who do not wish to conduct same-sex wedding ceremonies.

For those couple already in a civil partnership, they would be able to convert it into a marriage.

The proposed legislation is due to be discussed in September, and if approved, would be in place no later than January 2017.
