On Monday, the Daily Mail shared images of the couple's daughter with the dummy, but in the article it was claimed that "parenting experts" had warned that the use of a dummy could risk hindering the child's speech development. They also accused the couple of putting her teeth at risk of damage.
However, the former England footballer has now responded to the claims. Taking a screenshot of the publication's headline, he posted it to Instagram for his 10.1 million followers to see. Alongside the image, he wrote: "Why do people feel they have the right to criticize a parent about their own children without having any facts ??
"Everybody who has children knows that when they aren't feeling well or have a fever you do what comforts them best and most of the time it's a pacifier so those who criticize, think twice about what you say about other people's children because actually you have no right to criticize me as a parent... (sic)".
David and Victoria, 41, are also parents to sons Brooklyn, 16, Romeo, 12, and 10-year-old Cruz.
