The actress, 33, dated Fredinburg for a year before they separated in 2014, but they remained close friends. In April 2015, Fredinburg was one of 10 people killed on Mount Everest after a large earthquake in Nepal triggered an avalanche.
Speaking about her former partner in an interview with Health Magazine, Bush admitted: "Losing one of my best friends a few months ago shattered me. There were days I felt like my body had been turned inside out. I felt like my heart was on the outside of my body and everyone who came near me was stabbing me."
She added that Fredinburg's death also served as a lesson to her, that life is too short.
"And the crazy thing is that since Dan died, the lessons have come like Mack trucks," she continued. "There is no next time. There is no excuse to wait a day to do what you want to do and to change the way that you want to change."
