The worry comes after the 22-year-old appeared to take a swipe at his former partner and her Little Mix bandmates on Twitter. The band are just a few of the celebrities seemingly criticised by the singer in recent weeks. Now though, friends of Malik have said they are concerned about his "self-destructing" behaviour.
Speaking to The Sun, a source is quoted as calling him a "little boy who needs to grow up".
They added: "He is self-destructing right now and I hope he's got someone there for him. I doubt he has, though, so that's why I'm worried for him.
"He's p***ing off so many people, it's very hard to see him having much support left by the time he's finally ready to release any music. He has gone power crazy. You can blame other people like his new management, but really, it's him."
Malik announced in March that he was to leave the boyband One Direction. His news came just days after he was alleged to have cheated on his fiancée while he was on holiday in Thailand. His former bandmate, Liam Payne, later confirmed Malik had left the group to spend more time with Edwards. However at the start of this month, a representative for the singer confirmed they were no longer together. Malik is understood to have ended the couple's relationship by a text message.
