Maternity Services Consultation Begins

A public consultation regarding temporary changes to women's and maternity services in an area of Wales has launched.

The consultation by the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board launched today, 24 August, and will run for six weeks. The announcement follows a meeting of the health board on Tuesday (18 August).

The board is looking at potentially downgrading services at one of the area's three district hospitals. In January of this year, plans were approved to downgrade maternity care at Glan Clwyd Hospital in Bodelwyddan, Denbighshire. However, a legal bid later blocked this decision.

This prompted the rethink at Tuesday's meeting. It has been said that the problems stem from a shortage of doctors.

A final decision is expected to be taken in November.
