According to reports, James Turley lost his wedding ring on Tuesday while he was out fishing on a teach in Felixstowe. He was washing his hands, having just put bait on his hooks, when the ring fell off his finger and onto the ground.
Speaking to the BBC, Mr Turley said: "I was absolutely gutted. My wife is out of the country, so the first she knew about it was when I put a post online asking for someone with a metal detector.
"She text me to say what an 'idiot' I am and she hopes I find it."
Shortly after leaving a message online, the 30-year-old received a response from Ben Bradshaw, who also lives in Felixstowe. Mr Bradshaw started his search on the Wednesday, but could not find the piece of jewellery. However, when he returned to the scene on Thursday morning, his perseverance paid off and he found Mr Turley's wedding ring.
"It was a really exciting feeling when I found it," he said. "I was overjoyed."
"It's amazing that someone would do that for a stranger," Mr Turley added.
