During an interview with RTE Radio One he admitted that he was going to propose anyway, however he was worried it might have seemed "inappropriate".
Peaches died of a heroin overdose aged 25.
He said: "I had planned to ask Jeanne to marry me. And then, because of Peaches, I thought it would be entirely inappropriate.
"But then we buried her and the next day I decided to let some air into the room."
