Inquest Reopens Into Expectant Mother's Death

An inquest has reopened into the death of a pregnant woman who was murdered by her former fiancé, it has been reported.

Eystna Blunnie was 20-years-old when she was killed in June 2012. She was kicked and stamped upon by Tony McLernon, and left for dead in the middle of a road in Harlow in Essex. Miss Blunnie, as well as the couple's unborn child, both died in the attack.

In March 2013, McLernon was given a life sentence.

Initially, an inquest was opened and adjourned a few days after Miss Blunnie's death, but the coroner ruled that a full hearing should not take place until McLernon's conviction. Ms Blunnie's family have since fought to reopen the inquest due to "unanswered questions".

It is understood McLernon had a record of domestic violence with previous partners, while in the months before Miss Blunnie's death, officers had been called out to the couple a number of times.

The inquest is expected to last three weeks.
