Zayn Malik Discusses Broken Engagement

Zayn Malik has finally discussed his relationship with Perrie Edwards – three months after the couple confirmed they had ended their engagement.

At the time of the couple's split in August, Malik, 22, was accused of ending their four-year romance by a text message as Edwards was about to go on a promotional tour with her girl band Little Mix. While Edwards never confirmed, nor denied the reports, Malik has now said the claims are untrue and that is not how he chose to end the relationship.

Speaking to America's Fader magazine, he explained: "I love her [Edwards] a lot, and I always will, and I would never end our relationship over four years like that. She knows that, I know that, and the public should know as well."

However, when asked why they decided to call time on their engagement, he said: "I don't want to explain why or what I did, I just want the public to know I didn't do that."

Malik and Edwards, also 22, first met in 2011 on the set of The X Factor – the former One Direction member was appearing on the show with the band, while Edwards was a contestant on the series. They confirmed their relationship the following year, and in August 2013, the couple confirmed they were engaged.
