The research, which has been commissioned by LatestinBeauty.com, surveyed 3,000 women, aged between 18 and 65. Among the gifts women have received from their partner, are a fishing rod, cellulite cream, a taxidermy kit – for a mouse – and a chainsaw. Other unique gifts men have offered to their other half include hair removal cream, a fossil, nasal hair trimmers and a jumper with an alien printed on it.
It's probably not surprising therefore to discover that 40% of women now choose their own gifts for Christmas – while one in three will return a present from their partner once the holiday period is over. A further fifth of women will 're-gift', while one on 10 use an online site to sell on their unwanted gifts.
However, 30% of women also admitted they don't want to hurt their partner's feelings, so they go as far as to practice their 'thank you' smile in the mirror so they look genuinely thankful when they receive their unwanted present. Meanwhile, a quarter will even wear or use a present they hate – just to avoid hurting their partner's feelings.
When it comes to the present-choosing, the survey revealed that half of women felt their partner was generous in his intentions – but they managed to get it wrong. One in four men were labelled as 'clueless', while another quarter were said to be disorganised.
Commenting on the findings, Katie Tillard, Commercial Director at LatestinBeauty.com, is quoted by the MailOnline as saying: "It's clear to see from our survey results that many men need a helping hand when buying gifts for the ladies in their life."
